Welcome to another issue of Passionate Income.
Today weβll be discussing what is arguably the #1 best place to find new clients if you're a freelancer and/or agency services.
Letβs dive in.
This issue is sponsored by us - Passionate Income!
Struggling to get ahead as a freelancer?
Want to build a business, but hate the idea of having to get on camera and pretend you're some kind of expert?
With a Faceless Instagram Page, you can earn a living online without having to become a guru, import products from China, or spend a single dollar on ads.
Plus you can sell your business for 27 - 36x monthly profit on Flippa!
And on Thursday, we're doing a live training where we'll show you how.
A few days ago the team here at Passionate Income had an in-person meetup after five months of working together virtually.
As is usually the case with in-person meetups, our time together was highly productive, allowing us to focus on big-picture issues instead of the day-to-day banality of regular work.
After not doing any business networking for quite a while, it reminded me just how valuable face-to-face connection is.
While you can swap audios and Zoom with someone every day Monday through Friday, absolutely nothing beats a handshake or a hug.
Nor does it compare to sharing a meal, coffee, or night of partying.
So what does this have to do with you getting clients?
As someone who climbed pretty high in the copywriting world, it was a well-known - but often ignored - fact that going to conferences was the best way to get the highest caliber, A-List clients.
And the reason for that is because online, you're competing against tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and potentially millions of competing service providers. Especially in more competitive niches.
On the flip side, when you meet someone face-to-face, you might be one of two, three or five people they meet that weekend. And in some cases, you might be the only one.
On top of that, not only does meeting face-to-face shrink the competition, it also increases your odds of getting hired. Mainly because of the increased bonding experience that happens in person (explained above).
So where should you go to meet clients?
First and foremost, industry events and conferences.
While it's true top-tier clients don't have time to go to every single event, most of them go to at least a couple per year. Assuming you're in an industry with hundreds or thousands of top-tier clients, that means there will always be a couple dozen (if not 100+) at every event.
Second, depending on what you sell, you may want to consider your local Chamber of Commerce.
While most CoCs are filled with older professionals trying to sell their services, most of these people are good-natured and happy to help out an up-and-coming entrepreneur/service provider.
So, while you may or may not close any deals directly inside your CoC, what you have to remember is that every person there has a network. Meaning, the more people you build legitimate relationships with, the more doors you open.
Third, you can also look for social clubs where business owners or decision-makers would congregate.
While your local "let's get drunk and play kickball" league probably isn't the best option, charity drives, upscale car shows, etc. can be packed with financially successful individuals.
Last, understand it requires a level of savvy to become financially successful.
I mention that because people don't achieve success by being taken advantage of. Instead, they develop highly tuned BS detectors so they can spot someone who's trying to extract value out of the relationship.
So if you're going to go this route, understand it will take some professional seduction. Don't be the insurance salesman who goes in and spams his business card to everyone.
Instead, be the super awesome party guest who also happens to provide XYZ service (Which you, Mr. CEO, just might benefit from...).
π‘ Takeaway: In-person meet-ups are an incredible way to land clients. They allow you to leapfrog the competition while establishing a depth of relationship that's just not possible online. With that said, no one likes a spammer. So act normal, provide value, and try to build real relationships.
