Welcome to another issue of Passionate Income.

Today we’ll be discussing a bad habit you must kill off if you want to succeed.

In particular, one that’s so destructive no amount of hard work, talent, skill or ambition can make up for its damaging effects.

Let’s dive in.

While freelancing, agency services and eCom have become saturated, Faceless Instagram Pages are one of the least competitive businesses out there.

I should know: I built a 1M+ follower page that generates $1,000+ per day!

Over the course of my years in business, I’ve had my share of ups and downs.

Big months and bad months. Projects that took off and projects that bombed.

A while back, I decided to do some journaling to identify what the common denominators were. To figure out what patterns lay behind my successes (so I could repeat them) and my failures (so I could avoid them).

And sure enough, there was one single behavior that preceded my failures with a 100% accuracy rate. Guaranteed, sure as the fact the sun will rise tomorrow, when I did this one thing I struggled to make money.

tabel day

At the same time, when I avoided this behavior - and instead did the opposite - I made money every single time. And in some cases quite a bit.

So what was this magical habit that predicted my future with 100% accuracy?

Whether or not I gave up before the 180-day mark.

In 100% of cases where I stuck with the same business model for six months or longer, I achieved some level of success (aka $$$).

On the flip side, didn’t matter if I only stuck with something for a week, a month, or three months. If I gave up before seeing it through to the six-month mark, I never made serious money from it.

See, when it comes to business, most beginners want information. They want the hacks, shortcuts, and advanced tactics the veterans are using. Why?

Because they believe the “information” is what makes veterans successful.

In reality, however, no amount of hacks or tactics can compensate for a weak mindset.

Because whether it happens now, a week from now or a month from now, you as an entrepreneur will face defeat.

You’ll lose all your clients at the same time. You’ll write a big check to a manufacturer in China and they’ll steal your money. You’ll build a SaaS only to find someone else ripped off your idea and is marketing it more effectively.

Unless they inherited a company that runs on auto-pilot, absolutely nobody who is successful in business got to where they are without overcoming defeat.

Yes, some people have natural-born talents, skills, and resources they can lean into to make their entrepreneurial journey less difficult. But just because some people have it easier than others does not mean it should be “easy” for everyone.

In fact, approaching business with the expectation things will be “easy” is a slap in the face to every successful entrepreneur who’s come before you.

It’s the sign of an ego that’s so gigantic it screams:

“Nevermind the fact everyone who came before me had to overcome struggle and defeat. I’m too special for that. I’m too smart to have to face challenges. Business should be effortless for me.”

Seeing this written out, it’s laughable to think someone - let alone a beginner entrepreneur - would ever think such a thing. Sadly, that’s precisely what’s implied when someone gives up as a result of facing an obstacle.

Which brings us back to the veteran entrepreneur.

Stick around business for long enough and you’ll find a shocking number of self-proclaimed “idiots” who’ve gotten rich. Why?

No, it’s not because of their smarts. Or their network. Or daddy’s trust fund.

No, the real reason is because they’re pig-headed about never giving up.

“Pick one thing, get really good at it, and do it for a long time.”

Alex Hormozi

On the surface, this advice is almost too simple. It sounds too easy.

In reality, however, following this one-sentence plan is incredibly difficult.

Picking a business model is easy. You can do it in thirty seconds. And while getting good takes time, the process can be sped up by putting in the reps.

Where 99.99% of people fail, however, is the “do it for a long time” part. Because doing one thing for a long time (by definition) requires you to overcome obstacles (given you can’t “do one thing for a long time” if you give up every time you hit a snag).

Sadly, our brains scream at us to give up when things get hard. They beg us to throw in the towel when our plan doesn’t work perfectly.

Admittedly, much of this has to do with humans’ deeply ingrained bias toward avoiding stress (given stress in the caveman days meant some kind of mortal threat). So it’s understandable why we do this.

But just because a behavior “makes sense” doesn’t mean it’s OK to keep engaging in that behavior.

As we’ve written about in a previous issue, giving up - especially when you quit because another opportunity looks easier - guarantees you start over from zero.

Sure, we're not implying you should ride a sinking ship to the bottom of the ocean. Some business ventures should be closed down (and that’s OK).

But analyze your behavior.

If you find yourself throwing in the towel every time things get tough, or don’t go your way, take inventory. Analyze your emotions, and try to think about the situation logically.

Because until you develop the ability to stick with ONE thing through thick and thin, it’s likely success will evade you.

💡 Takeaway: The reason so few people succeed in business is not because of a lack of information, but because they lack the ability to persist in the face of defeat. Mastering this one skill can mean the difference between mind-boggling success and guaranteed failure.

I'll leave you with this quote…

"Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about.”

Winston Churchill
