Doesn’t matter if you sell to consumers, aliens or the government:

If the people your business is trying to sell stuff to don’t know you exist, your company is dead in the water.

On the flip side, if an excess of customers/clients want your thing, you can get one of the most powerful forces in business working in your favor:

Supply and Demand

The reason you can’t just go out and buy a new Birkin Bag or premium edition Ferrari is because the number of people who want them relative to the number of units available is over 100-to-1.

Now, whether that’s a result of a legitimate production shortage (probably true in the case of Ferrari) or whether that scarcity is manufactured (like it is with luxury clothing brands), the net effect is the same:

If 5,000 people want your product or service, but you only have 50 units available, you as the provider control the pricing (and can essentially charge as much as you want).

Meaning, the more people who know about (and want) your thing, the more secure your business is. So how do you make people aware of your product or service?

By getting more attention on your brand.

Which in the digital age, means getting more traffic. More clicks, more eyeballs, more downloads, etc.

And as of this writing, one of the absolute fastest ways to get traffic is by taking advantage of a loophole in Google’s algorithm.

But just because a loophole exists today doesn’t mean it will stay open forever.

Similar to doing a water fast to lose weight (e.g. before a wrestling or UFC match), strategies that drive rapid results are rarely sustainable long-term.

And because of that, this should not be looked at as long-term solution.

Reddit SEO Hacking

This is something I first learned about from BowTiedTetra on X / Twitter.

Long story short, Google is in a constant battle to prevent spammers from getting their websites on the first page of Google. Mainly because Google’s goal is to provide a good user experience, which means putting the most legitimate, highest quality results at the top of their listings.

Well, as it turns out, for some odd reason Google now considers Reddit threads to be legitimate, high quality results (LOL). And because of that, they’re (for the time being) placing Reddit threads high in their search results.

So how you can use this to your favor?

The short version is that you use a dummy account to create a Reddit post where the title of the post is optimized for the keyword you want to rank for.

From there, you use another couple dummy accounts to respond to the original post with a link to your product or service.

With that said, the devil is the in details.

First, you can’t just go out and try to rank for a Level 100 competition keyword.

Instead, you have to have some level of keyword research understanding to figure out whether or not a Reddit thread has a realistic chance of ranking in the top 10 (and ideally top 3) listings.

While keyword research is not particularly complicated, it can be time consuming and may require you to use software you’re not familiar with.

In terms of resources for learning KW research, a quick Google search will provide you with a near infinite number of articles and videos. Just make sure you put an emphasis on content from 2024 (like this video), as the SEO landscape is constantly changing.

Second, once you sub-reddit thread is live, you’ll need to get it indexed in Google. This is by far the easiest step, with articles like this one providing simple instructions.

Third, once your thread is indexed, you’ll want to track how it’s ranking for the keyword you’re targeting. If the ranking is high, but not at the top of the first page, you may need to build some backlinks to your post/thread.

Similar to keyword research, backlinking is a highly nuanced and constantly changing strategy.

And because of that, you should research backlinking strategies that are relevant in 2024 (or just check out BowTiedTetra’s paid newsletter, where he teaches this strategy as part of his $11/month subscription).*

*While I used to work in the SEO industry and can verify Tetra know what he’s talking about, we are not affiliates and I have never subscribed to his paid newsletter. Because of that, we will not be linking to it here.

From there, your goal is to get your page to rank in the top 3 listings for the keyword you’re targeting.

This could require you to add more / newer comments to the thread (which increases both how “fresh” the thread is while also increasing the length).

Further, you may need to build more links to increase the thread’s authority/relevance in the eyes of Google.

Either way, this is by far one of the biggest traffic loopholes in existence right now. Admittedly, taking advantage will require you to learn some SEO skills and potentially spend some money (buying backlinks).

But as you likely know, getting your business to the top of Google can drive thousands (if not millions) of dollars in sales.

So look at this like an investment.

Except unlike regular SEO, which can take years and require you to spend 4-6 figures, you can get this working in your favor in a matter of days/weeks for a fraction of the cost.

💡 Takeaway: For the time being, Google is ranking Reddit threads (and Forbes articles) very high in their search results. And because of that, marketers are taking advantage of this loophole by creating fake threads and paid Forbes placements, then doing traditional (but aggressive) SEO to get their pages to the top of Google fast.
